Job purpose

Support and coordinate all Level 2 support activities for OQ Corporate applications, under delegated authority from N-4 Corporate Applications, acting as technical liaison overseeing and translating Corporate applications business requirements into both functional and technical requirements.  Provide end user level 2 technical support and application troubleshooting as needed for in order to ensure value level and business user objectivities and quality standards are met.

The Application Specialist will support all Non-ERP applications (LIMS, MES, Asset Maintenance, Reliability & Integrity Management applications, SharePoint, Portals, Websites, Mobile applications, Microsoft PowerApps and all other related corporate applications), managing and recommending application enhancements and changes, to ensure that OQ’s Corporate Applications are aligned with the needs and demand of the company.

The position will act in accordance with the Group’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines and international standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards, Omani’s government & other legal justification’s, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Ensure technical problems are resolved in a timely and cost-effective manner
  • Be primary point of contact for application portfolio and drive Level 2 issues to resolution
  • Drive business application standards and improvements by identifying trends in system problems and user training.
  • Maintain and create documentation around technical troubleshooting and best practices and Develop user guides, SOPs and Training material
  • Provide input regarding methods to increase operational efficiencies and technical product improvements
  • Ensure that hardware and software are continuously reviewed and enhanced according to business requirements and keep live configurations such as prompt backups, disaster recovery techniques etc.
  • Ensure applications are running without interruption
  • Ensure that end users are timely and effectively trained in using the application.
  • Promote to ensure existing and potential users are aware of the opportunities and facilities available to improving work efficiency.
  • Provide relevant technical guidance on specific areas of expertise to support project development, assessments of broader corporate issues, new technology and major capital investments, including to vendors.
  • Ensure adherence to the support methodology SLAs and OLAs
  • Ready to engage actively in IT project team to see the project cycle completed, meeting agreed project parameters (cost budget, timelines, scope and quality), standards and objectives.
  • Develop ideas that improve the application effectiveness, reduce total cost of ownership and maximize return on investments.
  • Ensure standard solutions conformity to the enterprise architecture / infrastructure.

Notable Working Conditions. Office environment, intensive computer screen use, sporadic visits to operation site.

Education requirements

Minimum Qualifications for this position is a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Economics or Computer Engineering (or related disciplines) or equivalent experience.a

Language

Excellent knowledge of written, read, and spoken English (required)

Background and experience

Competencies and skills

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in similar role, in a large oil industry industrial organisation.
  • Knowledge of Database Technologies: SQL Server, MySQL or other Relational DB familiarity
  • Experience in supporting Manufacturing, Engineering and Laboratory Applications (likeLIMS, GCDS, YAS, MES, AMS, CAED, etc.)  
  • Experience in supporting Corporate Applications (like ERM, ECM, TM, etc.)
  • Experience with Microsoft O365 / PowerApps platform
  •   Knowledge of Microsoft products (AD / AAD, Exchange, SharePoint, Windows Server, Windows Clients)
  • knowledge in Instrumentation and Process Control desired
