About the Company

Petroleum Development Oman is the leading exploration and production company in the Sultanate of Oman. The Company delivers the majority of the country's crude oil production and natural gas supply. 

Purpose of the Job

A uniformed position that is required co-ordinate and manage the operational activities of their respective shift/team across all PDO sites. The Watch Commander (WC) reports to the PDO Senior Fire Offoicer (SFO). The Watch Commander will act up as Senior Fire Officer as required.  

Education & Experience

Higher Diploma or BSc in fire and Safety Engineering.

Qualified as an experienced firefighter in all aspects of Aviation, Domestic and Industry firefighting.  

3-5 years’ Experience of firefighting including at least 3 of those years at middle management in a recognised fire service environment. 

•    English speaking, writing and listening 
•    PDO Fire & Rescue Standard Score of 3 For Mathematics 
•    Competent in Information Technology (I.T) 
 

Main Responsibilities

Responsible as a second line manager for ensuring emergency response preparedness in all aspects of operations including but not limited to:  Fire, Rescue and life safety, Environment response and First aid response

Support the Senior Fire Officer in the management and development of fire crews, equipment and resources within the department 

Perform the duties of an Incident Commander for an operational incident where required

Responsible for short term manpower and equipment planning and resourcing

Deliver customer operational interface for exercising and customer requests

Create a culture within the shift team that encourages a proactive partnership approach to problem solving

Ensure compliance with PDO Safety Health & Environmental Programme including but not restricted to: Carry out planned General Inspections on Asset areas, Housekeeping / safety audits. 

Liaise at an operational level with customers and external emergency services

Equipment is delivered for operational maintenance and appropriate documentation is completed

The Watch Commander is a flexible role covering all aspects of shift routines and operational requirements including both hands on as well as shift management

To deal with any incidents on site to prevent loss or damage to plant, life, local community and the environment

Effectively manage shift and station operations including:

Conduct parade at start and end of shift
Complete daily paperwork as required
Attend meetings as per operational needs
Arrange shift training as per the training plan 

Self motivated to complete daily workload schedules on time in full

Understand and fully comply with Fire & Rescue service policies and procedures

Conduct servicing and maintenance of fire and rescue equipment as per daily work schedules and standard tests   

Maintain a level of fitness as per Fire & Rescue service standards

Perform all the required skills and core competencies as defined for the role

Attend both internal and external training as per Fire & Rescue service requirements

Proactively contribute and manage towards maintaining a safe and healthy workplace including the reduction and identification of , Accidents, Near misses, Environmental releases, Health and safety cause for concern issues

Proactively take part in problem solving along with continuous improvement of the department

Initiative and strong self-motivation
