The Process Safety Engineer key responsibilities are to drive PDO's process safety (PS) performance improvement plans alongside an assurance role and develop a strong process safety culture, thereby supporting PDO's top priority to be a leader in process safety.
Delivering on Process Safety expectations is a critical success factor for PDO. The Process Safety Engineer is a critical position designed to apply technical capabilities toward the prevention of Process Safety Incidents. This can only be achieved by developing a strong compliance culture by way of stakeholder engagement, training and making the AI-PS related expectations clear for all staff.

Chemical Engineering degree from a reputable Technical University with a minimum 10 years relevant business experience of which a significant portion has been spent in hands on continuous plant operations and a minimum 5 years in a Technical Safety Engineer or a Process Safety Engineer role. In addition, a good understanding is required in the following:
Asset Integrity and process safety management (AI-PSM) particularly in the operate phase and understanding of the different project execution phases.
Basic understanding of process safety critical processes like Management of change, Risk Based Inspection, permit to work, emergency response management, IPF classification, shift operations, maintenance execution, alarm management. Ensure safe production etc.
HSE case and barrier management - Has experience of Process Hazard Analysis in more than one methodology, like What if, Bow-tie, HAZOP etc.
Major accident hazard management and demonstrating risk tolerability and ALARP
Knowledge of relevant Shell Standards, PDO procedures and other Industry best practices like API, CCPS, IOGP etc.
Ability to Quick interpretation of documents like process design data, process control philosophy, design documents like equipment drawings, data sheets, MSDS, P&IDs, Area classification documents, Operating Manuals, cause and effect diagrams etc
Good knowledge process safety safeguarding systems
Proven experience in leading Asset Integrity and Process Safety related audits (based on CCPS)
Basic understanding of Consequence analysis tools.
Experience in Operating continuous processes and equipment.
Good change management, interpersonal, influencing, presentation, oral and written communication, report writing and negotiating skills are a perquisite for this role.
