Job Title: Petroleum Engineering Manager
Location: Muscat, Oman
Industry: Oil & Gas – Upstream Operator
Reporting To: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
About the Role:
An established and ambitious Omani Oil & Gas Operator is seeking a dynamic Petroleum Engineering Manager to lead its Subsurface Team during a critical phase of growth and expansion. Based in Muscat, the role is pivotal in delivering strategic field development, maximizing hydrocarbon recovery, and ensuring long-term value creation across our assets.
The successful candidate will be a key member of the executive team and is expected to provide technical leadership, strategic direction, and mentorship while driving performance and delivering tangible results.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead and manage the Subsurface Team (including Petroleum Engineers, Geoscientists, Reservoir Engineers, and Exploration professionals) across both development and exploration activities.
2. Prepare the Annual Subsurface Business Plan, including work programs, budgets, resource planning, and alignment with corporate objectives.
3. Develop short-, medium-, and long-term Field Development and Exploration Strategies to optimize asset value.
4. Ensure timely and accurate Annual Reserves Estimation and Reporting in accordance with industry standards (e.g., SPE-PRMS).
5. Drive the preparation, execution, and regular update of Field Development Plans (FDPs) for all producing assets.
6. Lead technical and strategic reviews, including peer assists and assurance processes, to ensure robust and defendable technical work.
7. Act as the technical authority and representative for subsurface matters in front of internal and external stakeholders, including shareholders, regulators, and joint venture partners.
8. Coach, mentor, and develop national and expatriate staff, fostering a high-performance culture and ensuring clear Staff Development and Succession Plans.
9. Promote and enforce a strong Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) culture, ensuring all subsurface activities comply with company and regulatory standards.
10. Maintain a healthy network with other operators, industry bodies, and regulatory authorities in Oman to promote knowledge sharing and industry collaboration.
11. Identify and evaluate new technologies and workflows that can enhance reservoir understanding, well performance, and field recovery.
12. Support or lead new venture evaluations (farm-ins, acquisitions, etc.) from a technical due diligence perspective.
13. Contribute to executive-level planning and decision-making as part of the company's growth strategy and asset optimization efforts.
المهارات المطلوبة
Key Requirements:
1. Minimum 25 years of experience in the upstream oil and gas industry, with at least 10 years in Operator roles.
2. Proven leadership experience in managing multi-disciplinary Subsurface Teams.
3. Strong technical foundation in Petroleum Engineering; a background in Geology or Geoscience is highly preferred.
4. Demonstrable track record in field development planning, reserves reporting, and production optimization.
5. Prior experience in exploration and appraisal workflows, including volumetrics, risk assessment, and well planning.
6. Experience working in or with GCC reservoirs is an advantage.
7. Not more than 57 years old at the time of application.
8. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
9. Fluent in English; Arabic is an advantage.
