Job purpose:

 

To lead & develop Sustainability and ESG, acting as single point of accountability for leading the day-to-day internal and external stakeholder interactions related with Sustainability, while developing a strong relationships with internal / external stakeholders including NGOs to build a deep understanding of their requirements and expectations to support OQEP and Oman’s broader sustainability initiatives and contribute to national objectives., and (2)  Oversees Sustainability, Strategy, and lean assessments,  related evaluation process, end-to-end process / support (including research and projects) and team; in order to ensure an efficient coordination & service to PT&C’s internal customers. (3) Foster a culture of sustainability within OQEP through effective engagements and awareness training programs.(4) develop a strategy that aligns with Oman’s 2050 net-zero target, setting intermediate goals for reducing emissions, transitioning to renewable energy, and promoting energy efficiency within OQEP.

 

The position will act in accordance with the OQEP’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines, and international standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSSE standards, Omani’s government & other legal justifications, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives. national objectives.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Provides insight & thought leadership on sustainability matters (central policies, procedures, tools) at OQEP acting as owner of its standards, framework, and the single point of accountability / “bridge” with Business units / Asset owners and Corporate regarding Sustainability matters by leading end to end processes, while providing sustainability framework, and services to all business Units / leaders on how to implement sustainability strategy.
  • Establishes and tracks sustainability targets (e.g., reducing carbon footprint, waste reduction, supply chain responsible procurement, promoting diversity and inclusion) through key performance indicators to measure performance and lead cross functional teams to implement sustainability programs and initiatives.
  • Oversee the collection, validation and analysis of sustainability and ESG data to monitor progress and report performance.
  • Lead all R&D efforts on Sustainability matters and Oversees the Sustainability performance of OQEP to support the achievement of its goals and ensure that central policies, procedures, tools, and decisions are made considering the relevant business/functions need.
  • At Corporate Level, interface with Sustainability agenda of OQ’s group, by presenting the Sustainability frame for OQEP (aligned with OQ Group) and the KPIs for Sustainability results at OQEP (monthly, annual)
  • Present relevant reports for specific stakeholders, while providing information to corporate functions on sustainability strategic priorities & plans at OQEP.
  • Lead initiatives to reduce emissions across the supply chain and internal operations, including adoption of renewable energy solutions and sustainable practices across business units.
  • Identify and assesses ESG related risks and opportunities and develops mitigation strategies to support long term sustainability and resilience.
  • Develop and publish the annual sustainability reports and other relevant reports in compliance with relevant frameworks (e.g., GRI, SASB, TCFD) to showcase OQEP efforts in sustainability and contribution to the national objectives.
  • Represent OQEP in local and international sustainability conferences, summits, events and focused groups and committees.
  • Develop and manage the annual sustainability work plan and budget, ensuring alignment with OQEP’s overall business strategy and targets.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental, occupational health and safety and welfare regulations and relevant standards
  • Acts as a key integrator with CEO’s of OQEP of all sustainability efforts to ensure sustainability is embedded in all aspects of the company’s.
  • Review and oversees Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) activities to ensure that all operations, projects, and personnel adhere to applicable environmental standards, policies, and legal obligations.
  • Monitors applicable environmental laws, regulations, and emerging requirements—with specific emphasis on soil, air, and water quality, noise pollution, and hazardous waste management—to evaluate their potential impact on company operations and project facilities.
  • Facilitate environmental permitting and licensing processes, ensuring timely acquisition of permits in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Provide accurate and timely input to the environmental reports required by lenders, regulatory bodies, and other key stakeholders.
  • Maintain oversight of the environmental performance of existing activities to ensure the operations and new activities meet all the regulatory requirements and organizational objectives.
  • Operate and maintain the Environmental Management System (EMS) in accordance with ISO 14001 standards, promoting continuous improvement and regulatory compliance across OQEP operations.
  • Support the implementation and continual improvement of the Energy Management System in accordance with ISO 50001, driving energy efficiency initiatives and sustainable energy use across operations.

Education requirements

  • Minimum Qualifications for this position is a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Sustainability, Business Administration, Environmental or equivalent.

Language requirements 

English – Fluent (Required),  Arabic – Fluent (Preferred)

Background and experience

Competencies and skills

  • 10+ years professional experience in ESG and various sustainability-related domain.
  • At least 2+ years in a leadership position.
  • Certified Sustainability Professional (CSP)
  • ISO 14001 Environmental Management lead auditor
  • Certified in Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)Trained in TCFD and SASB sustainability reporting frameworks
  • Certification in Energy Management would be a plus.
  • Experience in Sustainability and Lean methodology & Coach Initiatives in the Oil & Energy vertically integrated industry.
  • First-hand experience is gained on the challenges, issues and risks that exist throughout the business coupled with exposure to the senior leaders who are managing them. This will allow the incumbent to develop their personal strengths and related business knowledge and provides the professional toolkit to grow into new roles.
  • Familiarity with international standards like GRI, SASB, TCFD, and UN SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), along with national regulations and industry-specific frameworks. Experience in drafting and improving SOP/ training manuals.
  • Experience of developing and implementing organizational development initiatives 
  • Practical Lean experience in applying process improvements and Lean tools such as value stream mapping; 5S; identifying and eliminating waste.
  • Basic knowledge of sustainability topics
  • Strong aanalytical skills and comfort with data analysis and sustainability metrics to drive informed decision-making.
  • Ability to develop reports, dashboards,
