About the Company

Petroleum Development Oman is the leading exploration and production company in the Sultanate of Oman. The Company delivers the majority of the country's crude oil production and natural gas supply.

Purpose of the Job

PDO requires a Reservoir Engineer to work in intra-salt sour reservoirs with high pressure.

The Reservoir Engineer will be required to perform the following tasks:

• Perform reservoir engineering/compositional simulation and miscible gas EOR studies to execute Field Development Plans for miscible gas EOR along with primary development projects.

•    Interface with WRM to monitor injection start-up, operational and surveillance plans for such projects.

•    Perform reservoir analysis using analytical techniques and construct/history-match compositional reservoir simulation models for miscible gas EOR projects.

•    Manage key subsurface uncertainties for miscible gas EOR and primary production projects.

•    Define and implement comprehensive reservoir data acquisition and surveillance plans to manage uncertainty in recovery processes.

•    Perform economic analysis for projects and roll up for the cluster integrated yearly business plan

•    Perform a roll up of reserves for the annual reserve reporting

•    Coaching junior Omani reservoir engineers.

Education & Experience

•    University degree in Petroleum Engineering, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or equivalent technical subject
•    Minimum of 8 years experience in reservoir engineering.
•    Evaluating miscible-gas EOR recovery mechanisms and development concepts (complex PVT characterization and compositional modelling).
•    Developing PDO's capability in miscible gas EOR.
•    Multi-disciplinary exposure with operations and other PE disciplines.
•    Experience in analytical and numerical reservoir analysis techniques such as material balance, decline curve analysis, compositional/black oil reservoir simulation to evaluate the performance of the ongoing recovery mechanisms.
•    Experience in running economic analysis, rolling up cost and production profiles for well picks and yearly business plans
•    Experience in reserve estimating and reporting

Main Responsibilities

Principal Accountabilities

•    Guide and mentor less experienced Omani Petroleum Engineers
•    Adhere to PDO’s HSE standards and practices
•    Responsible for putting together economic analysis and business plan results for the cluster
•    Responsible for rolling up yearend reserve reports for the cluster
•    Provide reservoir engineering/simulation experience to update Field Development Plans in the cluster
•    Perform reservoir analysis with analytical techniques and construct/history-match compositional reservoir simulation models for the miscible gas EOR projects.
•    Identify and manage key subsurface uncertainties for the miscible gas EOR projects and primary depletion projects.
•    Define and implement comprehensive reservoir data acquisition and surveillance plans to manage uncertainty in recovery processes.

Staff Development:

•    Demonstrate technical leadership and model behaviors.
•    Develop PDO's capability in subject area (across skill pool and develop Miscible Gas expertise within PDO).
•    Actively contribute to regional and/or global networks in subject area.

Key Challenges:

•    Evaluating miscible-gas EOR recovery mechanisms and development concepts in complex PVT characterization and compositional modelling.
•    Developing PDO's capability in miscible gas EOR.

Key Competencies Required:

•    Effective communicator, with ability to communicate subject area to a wide variety of stakeholders (e.g. staff within discipline, other-discipline staff, PE management, external).
•    Ability to work as effective team member.
•    Ability to interface and network effectively with other expert practitioners within the discipline/subject area and with other disciplines across a wide range of organisational boundaries  (e.g. PDO Hydrocarbon Maturation centre, PE line & function, corporate planning, operations, drilling, well services, engineering, gas, exploration, Shell, Industry).
