-Assessing, planning, implementing quality primary healthcare, independent of a doctor or senior nurse.
-Detect and manage all types of emergencies to give first aid and prepare the patient for safe transportation to the nearest available health facility.
-Stand in LECC (Local Emergency Control) when the PDO doctor is away.
-Do minor surgeries such as minor incisions, suturing minor wounds, etc
-Screen patients, diagnose and treat with basic medicines, within the limit set under nursing prescriptions. Refer difficult cases to a doctor, if available or directly to a government hospital.
-Organise Speciality clinics (Diabetic, Hypertention, Antenatal, etc.) and assist medical officer to conduct routine medical check-up for PDO staff.
-Carry out simple x-rays of chest and bones when required and carry out all tests such as ECG, audiometery, vitalograph and alcohol breathalyzer.
-Carry out biochemical investigations such as liver function tests, cardiac enzymes, etc. to assist the doctor to form urgent opinion and make decision.
-Assist charge nurses in maintaining efficient emergency contingency plan. This includes Controlled Drugs at the ressusitation bay.
-Manage, direct and coordinate all types of emergencies in liaison with the medical officer.
-Conduct emergency drills quarterly in cooperation with contractor nurses.
-Check and maintain inventories of medical equipment for respective clinics.
-Accountable for the efficient and serviceability of medical equipment through inspection and regular maintenance service by authorized agent, as stipulated in the maintanance contract agreement.
-Maintain close communications with the department of Family and Community Health at the ministry of health. The job holder provides monthly statistics to the ministry of all services delivered e.g. immunization, diabetic and antenatal attendances etc.
-Implement occupational health and hygiene programs as determine by OH team.
-Familiarise and orientate contractor nurses, provide health education and conduct regular first aid refresher training to the interior working community. Maintain a record for data update.
-Carry out Public Health duties where PHIs are not available. This includes organising safe collection and transportation of clinical waste to coast for incineration.
-Administer the overall clinic affairs.
-Participate in social activities of respective locations such blood donation campaign, HSE matters, voluntary services, etc.
-Abide by the HSE rules.
