Job purpose

 

Provide Petrophysical Technical support for the comprehensive development of the Bisat Field, integrating geological, seismic, and reservoir dynamic data. Conduct proficient petrophysical analyses and evaluations for development, appraisal, and exploration wells in the vicinity. Determine critical reservoir properties within the Bisat Field using advanced petrophysical methodologies, contributing essential input data for resource assessments. Execute detailed Petrophysical evaluations and integrate findings to conduct volumetric assessments, aiding geological interpretations for identifying substantial oil and gas potential. Integrate advanced petrophysical techniques and technologies to aid guiding well placement, completion designs, and reservoir management decisions, ultimately maximizing oil recovery and enhancing the efficiency of oil development operations.

 

The position will act in accordance with the Group’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines and standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards, Omani’s government & other legal justifications, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

 

  • Provide robust technical engineering expertise, support and create innovative solution related with the execution of Exploration Petrophysics process /discipline and ensure teams apply common engineering principles and concepts to their own teams' responsibilities. May handle a large scope of projects simultaneously, and in addition to performing tasks, provides guidance to junior engineers, trainees, and teams.
  • Lead, develop & provide operability, availability and reliability judgements on systems related with Exploration Petrophysics by providing robust technical judgement on modification / innovation proposals in accordance with project requirements (Subsurface), and other relevant standards and while ensuring safety and reliability and provides guidance to junior engineers, trainees, and teams.  

 

  • Mentor and coaching Petrophysics staff to improve their skills and develop them into self-sufficient performers
  • Responsible of Creation and/or evaluation “QA/QC” of logging programs acquisition (e.g., conventional and non-conventional); and supervising such activities. Ensuring optimal design and suitable technologies are selected for data acquisition.
  • Hands on log interpretation and managing of conventional and non-conventional logs (FMI, Segma, VSP, MRI, etc.) including cased hole logging (e.g., cement log, production log)
  • Hands on stand alone or in team integration of PP data in subsurface reservoir characterizations for both development and exploration (lead, prospect) type.
  • Responsible for Calculation of reservoir volumetric (risked and un-risked) parameters such as saturation, porosity, m and n factors, etc.; both manually and using software. Responsible to integrate all data “core, logs, pressure data” to build petrophysical model.
  • Working in multidisciplinary integrated teams to build subsurface static and dynamic models.
  • Performing Value of Information analysis and cost analysis on subject related to petro-physical data acquisition or analysis.
  • Attend Technical Committee Meetings on behalf of OQ Upstream as and when required to cover for PP elements (both exploration or production)
  • Ensure deployment of new technology (including new software) in the PP arena and align such technology to OQ Upstream and its partner and subseries
  • Play an active role in PP discussion raising OQ Upstream profile by participating in international geo-science conference and workshop
  • Responsible for provision of stand in PP support to the Exploration Studies Manager as and when needed.
  • Coordinating logging and core analysis contract.
  • Ensure all evaluations and reports are documented in accordance with company’s Data Management Standards. Ensure to Work safely and think proactively about personal safety and safety of others at work
  • Actively participate in, contribute to, and promote company occupational health, safety, security and environment culture.
  • Ensure work is carried out in accordance with the Company HSE and Security policies and procedures and meet company HSE goals and targets and participate in HSE programs.

Notable Working Conditions. Office environment, intensive computer screen use, sporadic visits to operation site.

Education requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Geoscience or Engineering Discipline or equivalent

Language requirements 

Excellent knowledge of written, read, and spoken English (required) - Arabic - Native (desirable)

Background and experience

Competencies and skills

 

  • 10 + years of relevant experience
  • Experience in Exploration for New Ventures / JVs / Operated Assets
  • Experience in multidisciplinary integrated teams and contribution to exploration opportunity risking and ranking.
  • Experience in technical reviews, audits and preparation of Field Development Plans
  • Sufficient exposure is required in logging operations, core measurements, laboratory experiment follow up, data interpretation, and logging contractor follow up and integrated reservoir studies
  • Must be current with the latest industry tools and petrophysical interpretation techniques working with both clastic and carbonate reservoir systems
  • Knowledgeable in petrophysical and geological analysis integration
  • Ability to work on a variety of tasks in addition to traditional PP/evaluation responsibilities such as presentations for internal and external audiences, farm-in evaluations and assessment of production sharing contracts and joint operating agreements within the realm of Development and Exploration as well as creation and review of PP related contract (e.g. software contract)
  • Expertise on the Techlog software
  • Track record of deadline delivery and result oriented
