Job purpose

Execute Instrument Maintenance, regular calibration to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the instrumentation systems at SR1 , under TL Maintenance Instrument scope, acting as focal point of contact for Instrument repairs  &  parts / equipment,  and Technical Service provider of maintenance and execution of minor projects, modifications in accordance with the technical standards to maintain the assets by  (1)  Executing maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of various Instrument  equipment  & perform preventive, corrective and annual maintenance of instruments while observing safety rules and contributing in the achievement of KPIs, as per Department Business Plan, in coordination with owner assets, (2) Leading the Maintenance Instrument services utilizing best practice. (3) Coordination and supervision of assets, products, and maintenance work in the designated area, (4) Implement plans and coordinate Instrument maintenance works, and (5)  Guide younger Instrument technicians in areas of their responsibilities; in order to ensure plant equipment availability, reliability & optimization of cost / resources while facilitating smooth operations of the plant to meet operational targets.

 

The position will act in accordance with the Group’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines, and standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards, Omani’s government & other legal justifications, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives

Accountabilities: 

Instrument Maintenance

  • Accountable for availability of Instrumentations, Analyzers, and communication system of the area
  • Ensure application of best work practices in execution of Instrumentations maintenance jobs.
  • Responsible for Instrumentations side of project implementation in SR1 facilities.
  • Implements the Preventive Maintenance (PM) plan within his section and execution along with work backlogs.
  • Monitors Corrective Maintenance (CM) work orders in SAP and conducts trouble shooting for problem resolution.
  • Performs preventive and corrective tasks in plant control systems, shutdown systems and F&G systems.
  • Maintain back-ups for control systems and ensures that company policy in this regard is followed.
  • Prepare spare parts utilization reports and provide to Sr. Engineer for ensuring availability.
  • Prepared the LLF of instruments and its implementations
  • Ensure PM and CM work orders are closed promptly, and Instrument equipment maintenance history & reports are updated in SAP (CMMS)
  • Identify the critical issues, repetitive failure of Instrument equipment, done and the RCA Recommendations implemented for the area
  • Prepare annual leave plans
  • Directs, supervises, and controls all work for instruments maintenance and calibration.
  • Provides full technical & workforce support during plants’ shutdown.
  • Reviews f warehouse materials/spare parts availability. Maintains technical expertise in functional areas of process instrumentation.
  • Perform PM and CM activities in control systems / Calibrations, control systems, ESDs as per schedule and completed them timely.
  • Collect data from field and reports them through proper communication channels.
  • Receives assignment or work orders from supervisor and coordinates C/A activities with other peers for troubleshooting and repair works on distributed Control system and Logic controllers.
  • Follow laid down procedures to undertake emergency shot down valves testing, and maintenance installations.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and tuning on complex control loops
  • Assist in programming of various Programmable Logic controllers.
  • Contribute to maintain C&A technical expertise in the area.
  • Identify spares related to control system and maintain safe stock.
  • Conducts the technical evaluation of bids and generate the evaluation report.
  • Identifying gas in maintenance plan and task list and propose improvement.
  • Ensure application of best work practices in execution of Instrument maintenance jobs.
  • Implements the Preventive Maintenance (PM) plan within his section and execution along with work backlogs.
  • Monitors Corrective Maintenance (CM) work orders in SAP and conducts trouble shooting for problem resolution.
  • Prepare spare parts utilization reports and provide to Sr. Engineer for ensuring availability.
  • Responsible for issuing Work Permits on Instrument side and implementing Lock Out – Tag Out (LOTO) procedure.
  • In emergency drills or emergency situations maintains close liaison with On-Scene Commander and Operation Coordinator, for ensuring quick restoration of power.
  • Ensure PM and CM work orders are closed promptly, and Instrument equipment maintenance history & reports are updated in SAP (CMMS)
  • Identify the  critical issues, repetitive failure of Instrument equipment , done and  the RCA Recommendations implemented for the area
  • full technical & workforce support during plants’ shutdown.
  • Reviews warehouse materials/spare parts and determines strategy of their handling and procurement and ensures availability.
  • Coordinates efforts within the Section to develop guidelines, specifications, best practices, and procedures for maintenance
  • Maintains technical expertise in functional areas.
  • Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on Instrument systems, equipment, and machinery within the SR1 plant.
  • Identify and troubleshoot Instrument faults, malfunctions, and issues, and take corrective actions to resolve them promptly.
  • Conduct testing and diagnostic procedures to assess the performance of Instrument components and systems.
  • Collaborate with other maintenance team members to schedule and execute Instrument maintenance activities.

Repair and Replacement:

 

  • Replace faulty Instrument components, such as motors, switches, relays, and circuit breakers, following safety protocols and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Repair or rewire Instrument circuits, ensuring compliance with Instrument codes and standards.
  • Maintain an inventory of Instrument spare parts and equipment and coordinate with procurement for timely replenishment.
  • Monitor and track equipment performance, identify trends, and propose improvements to enhance reliability and efficiency.

Safety and Compliance:

 

  • Adhere to safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures, and other relevant safety regulations while performing Instrument maintenance tasks.
  • Follow Instrument codes, standards, and best practices to ensure compliance and prevent Instrument hazards.
  • Participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and incident investigations to promote a safe working environment.
  • Report any safety concerns, near misses, or incidents related to Instrument systems and equipment.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of Instrument maintenance activities, including work orders, inspection reports, and equipment history.
  • Update Instrument drawings, schematics, and manuals as required to reflect changes or modifications.
  • Generate reports on equipment performance, maintenance activities, and recommendations for improvements.
  • Provide input for the development of maintenance procedures, guidelines, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Collaboration and Communication

  • Coordinate with the operations team to ensure minimal disruption to plant operations during maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate with other maintenance technicians, engineers, and contractors to optimize maintenance schedules and resource allocation.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and stakeholders to report progress, issues, and any potential impact on plant operations.
  • Actively participate in team meetings, training sessions, and knowledge-sharing activities.

Education requirements

Minimum Qualifications for this position are Diploma in Technology or similar (instrument)

Language requirements 

Excellent knowledge of written, read, and spoken English (required), Arabic - Native (desirable)

Background and experience

Competencies and skills

  • 2+ years of relevant experience
  • Relevant experience in similar role for Oil & Gas industry.
  • Knowledge of instrument control loops.
  • Familiar with Systems, Applications and Products in data processing (SAP).
  • Good hands-on working experience with Honeywell and Siemens Control Systems
  • Experience on Local control station/ Plant interface bus and DCS.
  • Good knowledge of modern maintenance technologies & maintenance Planning and execution of Instrumentation Equipment’s, Analysers, Calibrations, control systems ESDs
  • Good experience in handling of Maintenance Contracts and shutdown related jobs.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
    • Expertise in SAP- PM
    • Process Equipment Life-Cycle Management
  • Good knowledge in Quality Assurance, Quality Control and HSE plans.
  • Knowledgeable in HSE plans related to maintenance activities.
  • Understanding of Process (P&IDs / PFDs) & Engineering drawings and OEM manuals.
