Petroleum Development Oman is the leading exploration and production company in the Sultanate of Oman. The Company delivers the majority of the country's crude oil production and natural gas supply.

Purpose of the Job

To lead PDO Tax section and related Tax services including Value Added Tax (VAT), Income Tax (ITL), Withholding Tax (WHT) or any other direct or indirect taxes in relation to the overall activities of PDO LLC and/or its subsidiaries and deliver quality tax services. To be responsible for the compliance with various tax laws and regulations as well as to be responsible for dealing with Tax Authority / Government Ministries in relation to PDO tax matters.

Education & Experience

• Bachelors’ degree in a finance, commercial or other disciplines such as Accounting, Taxation, Economics or related fields and holding a professional certification in Taxation, Accounting or Finance (ACCA, CPA, CIMA).
• Minimum 12 years of experience in relevant fields, preferably in areas of tax accounting; tax compliance; tax advisory services, filing of Tax returns and management of direct and indirect tax processes.
• Expertise in ERP working environment relevant for tax data management and reporting.
   

Main Responsibilities

• Deliver full scope of tax compliance and advisory services in compliance with laws and regulations of Government of Oman and other applicable jurisdictions.
• Lead the enhancement of tax processes for PDO and/or its subsidiaries in relation to VAT, Income Tax, WHT and any other direct or indirect taxes.
• Effectively manage the overall tax obligations, recoveries, and liabilities of PDO. Meet the deadlines on various submissions of tax returns
• Provide innovative Tax planning in relation of PDO operations and new business development requirements
• Manage the working capital requirements in relation to the tax impact and ensure timely settlement of the tax liabilities
• Manage all complexities (including dispute resolutions) associated with the tax accounting, preparation of tax returns and provide appropriate resolutions.
• Maintain regular engagements and interact with Oman tax Authority, external tax consultants and other stakeholders to meet business requirements on subjects relevant to PDO operations.
• Provide tax advisory support to all PDO stakeholders in relation to VAT, Income Tax, WHT and any other direct/indirect tax matters.
• Identify and mitigate tax risks arising out of PDO operations and new business development requirements
• Manage tax provisions and tax compliance process effectively in line with Omani Laws & regulations
• Introduce innovative tax solutions with fit for purpose technology tools and implement best practices within tax function.
• Manage and coordinate tax assessments and/or tax audits as and when required.
• Maintain tax balances on general ledger accurately and ensure ledger reconciliations are carried out in terms of all tax requirements.
• Maintain all tax documentation on regular basis and handle appropriately all data or information requests from Tax Authority or other internal/external stakeholders.
• Assess overall impact on PDO due to various legislative changes and proactively take remedial actions to address any compliance requirements.
• Seek timely tax refunds from Tax Authority where possible by filing refund applications.
• Responsible for the development and update of procedures, governance & systems, and ensuring appropriate staff competence level within the tax function in conjunction with Corporate Functional Disciple Head (CFDH).
• Raise awareness on tax matters across PDO organization and enhance relevant competencies within the tax function.
