Job Description

The Senior / Automation Technician position is a field orientated and centrally based within the Instrument & Automation department and it is responsible of increasing the run-time availability of all operating equipment, to meet the target KPI’s of Instrument & Automation department. The Senior / Automation Technician will be required to develop and maintain the Control and Automation (C&A) systems in Mukhaizna and responsible of a large network of control systems that has ESPs and RTUs and remote PLC Locations.

The Senior / Automation Technician will develop and maintain programmable logic controllers (PLCs) software, SCADA systems and Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs). Also, the Senior / Technician must be Familiar with a wide range of field instrumentation and the Rockwell ControlLogix 5000, CompactLogix, and SLC 500 Automation Platforms. The Senior / Automation Technician will provide Automation support to commissioning teams during the commissioning of new projects.

The Senior / Automation Technician responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Comply and ensure adherence to all written maintenance procedures, Job plans, and work instructions for routine and non-routine activities on critical or non-critical high-value equipment.

  • Troubleshoot automation network issues.

  • Develop programmable logic controllers (PLC) programs of new projects such as separators, manifolds, wells and water/gas treatment.

  • Develop Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) programs of new projects such as separators, manifolds, wells and water/gas treatment.

  • Support on managing activities and total backlog to have it within acceptable range.

  • Create maintenance procedures for end devices, transmitters and PLC logic.

  • Will be directly involved in the MOC implementation.

  • Integrate maintenance automation activities with field planned activities with maintenance planner.

  • Support the department in the structuring and training of Omani Technicians, in the varied maintenance discipline areas to achieve preset goals and targets.

  • Support project manager with project approval, control system & instrument engineering design.

  • Review, procurement, construction, and participate on commissioning/startup.   

  • Assist in establishing standards, templates, and guidelines as applied to the automation system.

  • On a major failure, to have an input on RCA Root Cause Analysis and work with technical advisor to have a final report.

  • Assemble all required documentation and user manuals created during the development process in order to transfer essential knowledge to customer and end user.

  • Work Closely with Instrument Department and assist in trouble shooting problems.

Skills Required

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in Instrumentation and Control System Association.

  • Strong knowledge in instrumentation calibration, operation, maintenance, including process control logic and communication protocols.

  • Experience in Allen Bradley PLCs hardware and software.

  • Experience in the oil and gas industry is preferred.

  • Ability to mentor automation and instrument technicians and effectively interface with peers
