About the Company

Petroleum Development Oman is the leading exploration and production company in the Sultanate of Oman. The Company delivers the majority of the country's crude oil production and natural gas supply.

Purpose of the Job

Key activities of the job are FDP execution/updates, HCM plan, routine business deliverables (ARPR, business planning, STPF, IPP), contribute to reservoir studies that includes both analytical and reservoir simulation techniques for development of the fields, short and long term production forecasting, optimize performance of existing wells and reservoirs by leading pattern reviews, design well and reservoir surveillance plan and define/update data acquisition strategy. In addition to this, support RE function on the assurance of well deliveries (WPT’s) and Asset studies, support the competencies assessments when and if required including the GDP/ATP programs and as Snr RE mentoring & coaching junior engineers / graduates.

Education & Experience

  • University degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or equivalent technical subject with a minimum of 10 years’ experience
  • Technically strong in RE field with good knowledge and strong integration with other PE disciplines & significant operational experience.
  • Good leadership skills: experience working effectively in multidisciplinary teams and a strong team player
  • Experienced dynamic modeler and effective at utilizing the models for reservoir management
  • Effective communicator, ability to coach/mentor younger staff and ability to think beyond discipline arena.

Main Responsibilities

  • Compliance with PDO Corporate objectives, guidelines, and HSE principles.
  • FDP Executions: Contribute to well picks and proposals, including justifications, economics, pore pressure prediction, well testing, and data acquisition across various reservoirs (high-pressure carbonates, clastic, fractured, tight).
  • IRM and HCM: Lead RE for maturing CR opportunities through integrated modeling, decline curve analysis, analogues, benchmarking, and collaboration with study teams. Construct and maintain dynamic simulation models to support FDP implementation, understand field performance, and identify growth opportunities to bridge RF gaps to TQ. Work with geoscientists and engineers to deliver reservoir modeling and development studies, reserves estimation, and economic evaluations.
  • Prepare field development plans and reserves submissions. Provide RE input to FSNs, maturation NFFs, FDP updates, new well locations, and optimization candidate selection. Liaise with hydrocarbon maturation teams for cluster FDP studies.
  • CR Identification: Support appraisal/NFE opportunities and data gathering. Work closely with Exploration to align appraisal strategies and early developments, ensuring alignment between Asset and Exploration on development concepts, RFs, and timing.
  • Major technical contributor to PDO’s production growth. Define and maintain lifecycle hydrocarbon maturation strategy, including CR identification and maturation.
  • Contribute to yearly Business Planning by maintaining forecasting tools, incorporating realistic production forecasts, project phasing, and costs. Provide economic analysis as needed.
  • Annual reserves updates (ARPR) and production forecasting (short, mid, long term). Input on production and injection well target setting.
  • Wells and reservoir management including monitoring, planning, and evaluating surveillance. Support Reservoir Management Plans and carry out reviews, PSOs, gap analysis, and healthchecks.
  • Define well test requirements using reservoir models and analyze/report data from surveillance activities (pressure transient tests, PVT, production logging).
  • Share Reservoir Engineering best practices across PDO. Ensure quality data in corporate databases.
  • Maintain engineering standards and technical excellence. Participate in project reviews and well deliveries.
  • Coach and mentor junior staff.
