Job Description

Accountabilities.
  • Operation Geologist is point of contact for Wellsite geologist, Well Placement and mudlogging contractor for all Geosciences related operational needs.
  • Provide necessary daily information to subsurface Team when needed.
  • Work w/ Drilling department to ensure Geosciences related contractors are aware of needs.
  • Ensure all Geoscience digital data link to operation (wireline, LWD, deviation data, etc.) are obtained correctly and distributed to key individual and /or Data manager.
  • Safeguard company data linked to Well Delivery by observing proper archiving of information and ensure the regular update of all databases.
  • Well Proposal custodian and Coordination of EOWR.
  • Contribute on all activities involving operations geology during pre-spud, TD section and while drilling.
  • Provide G & G Support to WE at End of Wells for AAR (Drilling) and presenting the Subsurface Slides during the AAR.
  • HSSE – Capable of presenting Geological Hazards.
  • Competent in Omani Stratigraphy.
  • Clear Understanding Drilling Parameters.
  • Log Interpretation.
  • Manage of Change (MOC) and Sequence Change Request (SCR).
  • Leadership and Supervision.
  • Sound in Teamwork.
Job activities:  
  • Co-ordinating the Exploration/ Development well planning process. 
  • Provides operational support to the well planning activities of the Exploration / Development in Ara.
  • Provides technical support to the subsurface team.
  • Provide support for operational drilling through provision of basic geological and stratigraphic interpretation.
  • Become familiar with Corporate Health, Safety and Environment where appropriate.
  • Assist in the cost cutting initiatives and business improvements.
  • Actively look for quality improvements within and outside team activities and continually challenge existing practices and work methods.
  • Issue New Well PI, validate Final PI and archive.
  • Initiate initial Well trajectory (needed for Well Proposal) by getting subsurface targets / notional surface location from Subsurface Team and finalize it.
  • Well Proposal Finalizing and signature.
  • Obtain Final wells survey (after completing location building) from Engineering department, QC, approve, file, and update new trajectory planning.
  • Ensure receipt of daily drilling, geologic, and mud log reports, QC, and archive.
  • Coordinate the compilation of mudlogging End of Well Report.
  • Daily communication with Wellsite Geologist / Well Placing team / Well Engineering.
  • Custodian of PETREL Operation Model (Update FM tops, trajectory, subsurface surfaces …. etc.).
  • Works closely with geo-steering team and other E&P stakeholders on geo-steering guidelines to deliver well as per Well Proposal.
  • Other work carried: 
  • Help in deciding landing point, and target point while drilling.
  • Picking TD section, picking coring point
  • Worked with DP input Team to initiate, QC and approved sidetrack trajectory in case of operational issues or accidental exit.
  • Contribute to Well Picking session by initiate the picking session package and follow input of contributor.

Skills Required

Qualifications and experience.
  • Text Graduate training in geology/geophysics or related science.
  • Sound knowledge of and recent experience of well planning and Operational / Wellsite exposure / procedures.
  • Achievement drive and good presentation, organization and communication skills required.
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in relevant E & P companies (Minimum number of wells attended 50 – Vertical/Deviated, Horizontal/Multilateral/Water Injector wells.
