Job Description
Accountabilities:
Versatile, self-motivated Geologist/Geomodeller with extensive hands-on experience in generating and executing field development plans (FDPs), develop appraisal strategies, update reservoir models and conduct reservoir studies. The incumbent will supervise and conduct geological and geophysical subsurface related activities for ARA Petroleum oil and gas fields. Duty shall entail (but is not limited to): build and maintain 3D geological models that appropriately capture subsurface uncertainty, integrating data from seismic, well logs, cores, and geophysics to understand reservoir dynamics for field development, well planning, and hydrocarbon (HC) resources assessment.
Undertakes geological studies of carbonate and siliciclastic reservoirs to optimize FDPs, HC resources maturation and well and reservoir management (WRM). The incumbent will also be expected to mentor and coach less experienced Omani staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Model Building and update
: Develop, update, and maintain full-field 3D static geological models in specialized software (e.g. Petrel, Gocad, RMS, Decision Space).
QA/QC geological data and maintain geological databases including real time data links according to company standards.
Integrated reservoir modeling (IRM) & data Integration: Incorporate subsurface data from various sources, including seismic, well logs, core samples, and production data, liaising and cooperating with other subsurface disciplines.
Reservoir Characterization: Create geological maps, cross-sections, and property models to better understand reservoir heterogeneity and deliver quality input to field development activities.
Uncertainty Analysis: Perform probabilistic, multi-scenario deterministic modeling and volumetric calculations to quantify risks and support robust business planning decisions.
Responsible for Stock Tank Oil and Gas Initially In Place (STOIIP, GIIP) volumetric estimations.
Report and classify hydrocarbon resources in strict accordance with the Petroleum Resources Management System (PRMS). Participates in Annual Reserves Review
Identifies areas where additional reservoir data gathering would further reduce subsurface uncertainty, support or design most appropriate reservoir geology data acquisition programs.
Initiates, QC and co-ordinate in-house/out-sourced specialized geological and reservoir characterization studies (and manage associated contracts if applicable)
Well Planning & delivery
: Provide geological support for exploration, appraisal and development drilling and workover opportunities, assessing uncertainties, including well picking session and well proposal preparation with relevant prognoses.
Geo-steering/placement of horizontal and highly deviated wells in carbonate/clastic reservoirs.
Develop and prepare integrated post-drill geological reports, highlighting predicted vs. actual parameters. Follow up on drilling operations and update the geological models accordingly.
Support
Well and reservoir management (WRM)
activities to minimize production deferment and maximize ultimate oil recovery at field, reservoir and individual well levels.
Collaboration
: Work with geophysicists, reservoir engineers, and drilling teams to integrate models and support field decisions.
Reporting & Presentation
: Present integrated reservoir modelling results, well picking sessions and after-action reviews (AAR) to technical and management teams. Describe data, workflows and findings in writing in professional documentation for subsequent external audits.
Skills Required
Qualifications and Experience requirements:
Academic education: University degree in Geoscience, Geology, or related fields (Minimum Bachelor of Sciences, MSc and PhD preferred).
Experience: Proven experience in 3D static modeling, reservoir characterization, and subsurface studies. Minimum 10-year technical experience as a geoscientist for an energy operator or an oilfield service or consultancy provider.
Language: English proficiency both orally and in written communication (C1 level minimum)
Technical Skills
:
Strong understanding of stratigraphy, structural geology, geophysics, petrophysics, including sequence stratigraphy and well log petrophysical analysis.
In depth recognized expertise with integrated reservoir modeling (IRM) processes and QC
Competent with 3D spatial data analysis, probabilities and geostatistics
Versed with regional geology, tectonic and sedimentology of Oman and its diverse petroleum systems
Familiar with play-based exploration, leads & prospects identification and basin modeling concepts
Strong cross-discipline awareness in other petroleum engineering domains (e.g. reservoir engineering, petrophysics, production technologies)
Previous experience with highly fractured reservoir and water flooding project would be advantageous.
Software Proficiency:
Extensive experience with geomodelling softwares (Petrel, Gocad, RMS or Decision Space)
Well Log Correlation: Strat works/Open works/Petrel
1D (@risk, CrystalBall) and 3D (Petrel) Probabilistic uncertainty management
Knowledge of Geographical Information System (GIS) and their application in exploration and for surface facilities planning.
Knowledge of 2D and 3D seismic structural and stratigraphic interpretation (Petrel, Kingdom...)
Interpersonal Skills:
Excellent communication, presentation, problem-solving, and mentoring abilities. Work and collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary, multicultural teams.
Open to feedback, able to solve technical challenges independently and creatively.
Lifelong learning mindset, curiosity, critical thinking, and superior work ethic
