Job Description
Position within the organisational structure:
Drilling Supervisor/ Wellsite Supervisor reports to the Well Delivery Manager of ARA Petroleum E&P. He will report to the Senior Drilling Engineer on a day-to-day basis during well operations. DSV may have Night DSV, Drilling Engineers, Completion Engineers or Well Service Supervisor assigned to them in the field who will report directly to them during their time in the field, although functionally they will report to SDE/ Snr WSE.
Responsibilities, Accountabilities, Job Activities:
The Well Engineering department is accountable for the safe, compliant delivery of production, appraisal and exploration wells and well interventions with all associated activities. The DSV is an ARA senior onsite Wells representative on Wellsites in the field, managing the activities of multiple drilling and well service contractors. He is the key interface between office based planning activities and execution of the plan in the field and as such is a critical role. There may be a single DSV on site, or they may work in shift rotation. In either case the designated Sr. DSV is the senior accountable person on the site, with Night or Junior Supervisors accountable to him. He will be required to manage the operation and his time to ensure HSSE and well objectives are delivered 24hours/ day. The WSS is responsible and accountable for:
Ensuring the health, safety and compliance of all ARA E&P and Contractor personnel on wellsites, either directly or by ensuring contractor is fully implementing the control of work on site in accordance with the contract and ARA HSSE procedures and engineering standards. Ensuring Contractors focus and prioritise on the major risks identified in the HEMP.
Managing and directing the wellsite team including rig contractor and service companies to deliver the well program and the well objectives.
Ensure Drilling Contractor, and Service Companies meet the contract requirements according to ARA, their own policy and procedures and good oilfield industry practices.
Ensuring contractors are carrying out rig site self-verification & oversight activities on their own operations and taking actions to correct non-compliance and improve their performance. Control of work audits are also expected.
Provide rig site verification on behalf of ARA that all aspects of the well construction activity are within design specification and ARA standards. Rigorous follow of drilling program and engineering standards unless proper MoC process is in place and approved by town.
Collecting, collating and reporting of lessons learnt during well construction/ well activity and driving continuous improvement in the well planning and execution. Active participation during AAR and EOWR is also expected.
Ensuring well control and well integrity is actively managed throughout the well construction and well servicing activities and intervene where it does not meet ARA standards. Including ensuring well control procedures such as monitoring of the well, critical maintenance, and drills are being effectively carried out.
Ensure contractor companies manage and maintain their safety critical equipment and that any overrides or critical equipment deficiencies are being managed and authorised according to the agreed procedures.
Ensuring all daily reports, well reports, and HSE performance reports are prepared, quality checked and submitted to Muscat office on time as per ARA well reporting guidelines.
Ensure all materials and services required for delivery of the well activity are called out, mobilised and ready in time for operations, and are returned in a timely manner. Ensure all ARA equipment on site is being effectively managed and maintained with active 7 day lookahead sheet on daily basis.
Review on weekly basis the cost/charges tickets against attained services/work and track well costs on Drilling Cost Tracking sheet.
Ensuring effective handovers are carried out and documented between all supervisors and their B2B’s during shift changes and tour changes, and that all risks are clearly communicated during the handover process. This also includes completing the Well Handover Sheet after rig release.
Supervising Well Engineers and Rig Engineers when they are on the rigsite in support of the Well Operations. Coaching and developing engineers when required.
Ensure that all activities are within national or local legislation and comply with company policy, guidelines and procedures Position will be rotational Field Based in QSF concession area. Nominally 14/14 for Nationals and 28/28 for Expats. He may or may not be supported by a Night Well Supervisor/ Engineer.
Position may be assigned to a single unit or may act as a relief or Night DSV if required. The DSV may be also required to supervise Drilling and Completion activities across ARA Petroleum assets if required. Where appropriate, he may be required to cover more than wellsite or wellsite activity simultaneously. Wellsite/Drilling Supervisor may be required to spend ad-hoc periods in the Muscat Office in support of well planning, workshops, rig commissioning, audits, special projects or during periods of light activity. Some of the DSV responsibilities if required in Muscat Office may include; Developing wells related ARA Wells procedures and instructions, including Drilling, Well Control and Well Interventions procedures, including Control of Work and HSSE procedures. Inspection of contractor rigs and well equipment, and contractor facilities in preparation for Drilling/Workover activities.
Skills Required
Candidate has proven track record, preferably with an operator, with respect to supervising drilling & completions operations, managing safety, leadership, on site supervision and managing contractors. Candidate must hold a BSc. or equivalent higher degree in the sciences or engineering disciplines and must have 8 years of experience or more spent in supervising Drilling, Completion & Workover activities. Candidate is preferred to have spent time and a role in Well Engineering or similar prior to becoming a well site supervisor. Candidate should have a working knowledge of one or more Drilling & Completion reporting and/or engineering software package. Candidate should hold or have recently held valid International Drilling Well Control Certificate at Supervisor Level (i.e. IWCF, WellCap).
