About the Company

Petroleum Development Oman is the leading exploration and production company in the Sultanate of Oman. The Company delivers the majority of the country's crude oil production and natural gas supply.

 

Purpose of the Job

•    Delivery of timely, technically excellent and business focused Geomechanics solutions. These range from borehole scale (related to borehole stability, sanding and fracturing) to field scale solution, and can also involve regional scale (thematic studies)
•    This involves a range from green field to (mainly) brown fields and from drainage to secondary and tertiary recovery projects
•    Ensure an understanding of the geomechanical risks (and related studies and mitigation) at all phases of the Opportunity Realization Process through the application of the geomechanical risk mapping tool
•    Contribute to the maintenance of geomechanics database in the development of sound geomechanics workflows       
•    Provide ad hoc consultancy on data gathering and monitoring programs.
•    Provide support for fraccing operations
•    Provide specialist assurance
•    Coach and supervise young Omani Geomechanicists
•    Provide training across PDO
•    Act as Geomechanics SME representing PDO in communication with the wider geomechanics community in Shell and the industry on best practices and new technology. Ensure best practices sharing within PDO.
•    Creativity and innovation in delivering fit for purpose solutions in many challenging environments and recovery mechanisms, such as deep tight gas and light tight oil environments and thermal recovery projects
      
These will de conducted in accordance with PDO and share holder’s corporate objectives and business principles.
 

Education & Experience

•    University degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Geo-Physics, Geology or equivalent technical subject
•    More than 10 years’ experience in geoscience & geomechanics in oil and gas operation
•    Strong technically, and pragmatic 
•    Proven mastery of borehole and field scale geomechanics solutions and modeling skills with Shell and/or other Industry software
•    Proven mastery of all stress measurement tools and analyses techniques
•    Good knowledge of the standard rock mechanical laboratory tests and their QA/QC
•    Solid background on formation evaluation tools and techniques
•    Good knowledge of the use of monitoring and surveillance technology required to calibrate geomechanical tool predictions
•    Expertise with heavily depleted and tight fields is desired
•    Expertise in hydraulic fracturing is desired
•    TA2 qualification is desired
•    Strong 3D Geomechanics modeling is desired
•    Experience with the following packages would be an advantage: Techlog, Petrel Visage, PWRI.etc
•    Strong team player and strong soft skills
 

Main Responsibilities

Portfolio
•    Delivery of timely, technically excellent and business focused Geomechanics solutions.
•    Participate in field development planning and reservoir management when applicable and advice on reservoir and field monitoring
•    Assurance of Geomechanics projects
Performance
•    Participation in Integrated reservoir reviews to assure technical integrity and quality of discipline work
•    Participate and add to existing geomechanics workflow 
•    Responsibility in maintaining the geomechanics database
Process
•    Participating in Discipline (PE) Meetings
•    Sharing Geomechanics  best practices across PDO
Planning
•    Execution of Discipline Business Plan in own Directorate
People
•    Developing awareness across the organisation together with the existing geomechanics team, coaching of Omani team members and colleagues.
