Job purpose

Lead the Group’s business Financial Modeling advisory function by developing and maintaining advanced financial models, scenario and sensitivity analyses, and planning frameworks that support strategic decision-making. The role ensures the integration of financial planning with operational execution, guiding investment decisions, divestments, and growth initiatives. It plays a critical part in delivering accurate, data-driven insights that align with corporate objectives and enhance the Group’s financial performance and long-term value creation.

 

The position will act in accordance with the Group’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines, and international standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards, Omani’s government & other legal justifications, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives.

Main tasks and responsibilities

 

Business Planning & Financial Advisory

  • Lead the development and enhancement of financial models to support strategic decision-making, incorporating growth projects, asset divestments, and various market scenarios.
  • Drive the integration of scenario analysis and price sensitivity assessments into all financial planning activities to evaluate potential risks and returns under multiple business environments.
  • Guide the implementation of advanced planning systems, forecasting tools, and financial databases to support dynamic and responsive financial planning aligned with Group objectives.
  • Advise business units and Group leadership on the financial implications of strategic initiatives, including capital deployment, divestiture options, and new investments.
  • Oversee and support the execution of the annual budgeting and planning cycle, including mid-year forecasts, rolling re-forecasts, and long-range planning updates.
  • Ensure planning frameworks align with financial reporting standards, regulatory requirements, and strategic priorities

 

Strategic and Operational Support

  • Provide expert insight and recommendations on business planning strategies, with a focus on value creation, capital efficiency, and return optimization.
  • Develop and maintain robust financial planning models that integrate operational inputs, macroeconomic assumptions, commodity price scenarios, and market variables.
  • Collaborate with performance reporting teams to ensure consistent use of assumptions and alignment of financial and operational KPIs.
  • Evaluate and challenge OPEX and CAPEX proposals using scenario-based financial impact assessments, incorporating NPV, IRR, and payback analyses.
  • Deliver strategic financial perspectives to shape Group-level priorities, investment strategies, and funding allocations.
  • Oversee the production of the annual business plan, financial forecasts, budget narratives in close coordination with finance, strategy, and operational teams.
  • Ensure the timeliness, accuracy, and analytical rigor of all planning-related reports, presentations, and submissions to senior management and the Board.

 

Process & Systems Development

  • Drive the continuous improvement of planning processes, data governance practices, model standardization, and system capabilities to support real-time analytics and decision-making.
  • Enhance documentation standards for financial models and planning outputs to ensure transparency, repeatability, and audit-readiness.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of departmental policies and internal controls related to business planning and financial governance.

 

People Development & Knowledge Sharing

  • Foster a culture of analytical excellence and financial acumen within the planning team.
  • Promote knowledge transfer, model standardization, and best practice sharing across teams to elevate Group-wide capabilities in financial modelling and strategic planning.

 

Special Projects

  • Support and lead financial modelling efforts for Group-wide transformation initiatives, divestments, M&A transactions, and major capital projects.

Notable Working Conditions. Office environment, intensive computer screen use, sporadic visits to operation site.

Education requirements

  • Minimum qualification is a bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Management, or equivalent.
  • Master’s degree or professional certification like MBA, ACCA, CFA is a plus

Language

Excellent knowledge of written, read, and spoken English (required)

Background and experience

Competencies and skills

  • Minimum 8-10 years of relevant experience in a similar role or domain, with a strong foundation in business planning and forecasting.
  • Oil & Gas / Energy sector experience is essential, with deep understanding of industry-specific financial and operational drivers.
  • Proficiency in building, maintaining, and auditing robust financial models to support budgeting, forecasting and scenario analysis.
  • Demonstrated heritage of working in a business planning and reporting capacity, supporting annual plans, forecasts, budgets, and strategic initiatives.
  • Proven track record of driving process improvements, implementing best practices, and enhancing planning/reporting tools and methodologies.
  • Solid understanding of financial principles and budgeting processes, .
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities while ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong commitment to accuracy, data integrity, and continuous improvement in planning and reporting processes.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and lead cross-functional collaboration.
  • Familiarity with enterprise performance management (EPM) tools (such as SAP BPC) along with strong Excel and data visualization (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) capabilities.
