Job purpose

The Economics & Investment Evaluation Manager will be responsible for leading the delivery of high-quality financial analysis, investment appraisal, and economic evaluations in support of strategic and operational decision-making across the company. Will oversee and ensure robust review and validation of investment proposals, economic models, and commercial assumptions across business units. The role plays a key interface between the Economics Department and functions such as Business Development, Asset Management, Strategy, and Corporate Finance. Moreover, will act as an SME ensuring capability development, and mentoring of other team members, while ensuring that departmental processes and outputs meet internal governance standards and external reporting requirements.

 

The position will act in accordance with the Group’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines, and international standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards, Omani’s government & other legal justifications, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives.

Main Tasks & Responsibilities

 

Investment Evaluation and Decision Support:

  • Lead the review and economic assessment of all investment proposals presented to executive management or investment committees.
  • Ensure investment cases are supported by sound financial models, clear business logic, and commercially robust assumptions.
  • Conduct critical analysis of project IRR, NPV, payback, sensitivities, and scenario planning.
  • Provide challenge and validation to business units on key assumptions (e.g., price decks, CAPEX/OPEX estimates, offtake terms, risk factors).

 

Financial Modeling and Economic Analysis

  • Oversee development and enhancement of financial models used for investment appraisal, business valuation, and scenario analysis.
  • Ensure consistency, transparency, and alignment with corporate guidelines or valuation methodologies.
  • Support cross-functional teams with economic inputs during commercial negotiations or strategic reviews.
  • Review valuation models related to M&A, divestments, partnerships, or new ventures and contribute towards any commercial negotiations.

 

Strategic & Portfolio Support

  • Work closely with the Asset Management team to identify value-creation opportunities across the company’s existing portfolio of assets.
  • Support the development of asset-level strategies/KPIs through performance benchmarking and commercial risk assessments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance asset returns through cost optimization, contract renegotiation, capacity expansion, or refinancing initiatives.
  • Contribute to strategic portfolio reviews, including hold/sell analyses, divestment planning, or capital reallocation decisions.
  • Conduct annual valuation exercise for management reporting purposes.
  • Collaborate with Asset Management to monitor the performance of existing assets versus investment case expectations.
  • Support the preparation of economic analysis for Board and senior management presentations as and when needed.

 

Mentorship & Capability Development

  • Manage, , and develop a team of specialists/analysts, ensuring high standards of analytical rigor and professional growth.
  • Drive a culture of continuous learning and performance within the team.
  • Set clear objectives, review deliverables, and manage workload allocation across the team.
  • Ensure knowledge transfer, standardization of best practices, and development of internal tools/templates.

 

Stakeholder Management

  • Act as a key point of contact for Business Development, Asset Management, Strategy, and other functions requiring economics and financial modeling support.
  • Represent the Economics Department in project reviews, investment committees, and inter-departmental meetings.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and credibility of economic analyses.

 

Policy, Governance, and Compliance

  • Develop and maintain internal policies, procedures, and manuals related to investment evaluation, financial modeling, and economic analysis.
  • Ensure alignment of departmental practices with corporate governance, risk management, and investment approval frameworks.
  • Periodically review and update processes to reflect best practices, regulatory changes, and organizational needs.
  • Support internal audit and compliance functions with relevant documentation and justifications.

External: Shareholders, Auditors, and Financial Consultants

Notable Working Conditions. Office environment, intensive computer screen use, sporadic visits to operation site.

Education requirements

  • A Minimum qualification of a bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, accounting, or a related field.

Exceptional knowledge of written, read, and spoken English (required)

 

Background and experience

Competencies and skills

  • A Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in investment evaluation, corporate finance, or economic modelling within the energy, infrastructure, or industrial sectors.
  • Strong track record of leading investment appraisals of large-scale projects or M&A transactions.
  • Proven experience in managing teams and mentoring junior professionals.
  • Relevant industry certifications such as CFA are a strong plus.
  • Experience in the energy industry is preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Advanced financial modeling and valuation skills (DCF, IRR, NPV, sensitivity, scenario analysis).
  • Strong understanding of investment economics, capital budgeting, and risk assessment.
  • Experience with reporting to external stakeholders and responding to regulatory/economic queries.
  • Knowledge of corporate governance frameworks and internal control best practices.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word; familiarity with tools like Power BI, or similar, is an advantage.
