About the Company

Petroleum Development Oman is the leading exploration and production company in the Sultanate of Oman. The Company delivers the majority of the country's crude oil production and natural gas supply.

Purpose of the Job

  • Daily interface with the Managing Director and Finance Director of the Company, and other Directors to provide strategic guidance, focusing on legal, ethical, commercial, and compliance matters as required. This includes being proactive in areas critical to the Company's transformation, and ensuring alignment with the broader strategic goals.
  • Lead the Legal and Ethics & Compliance Teams, fostering a culture of ethical integrity and compliance. Drive transformational change in these teams to align with the Company's evolving needs.
  • Lead Legal professionals as they manage all legal and compliance business issues of PDO in conformance with the laws of Oman, Concession Documents, and Policies and Procedures of PDO.
  • Actively contribute to developing and maintaining legal frameworks that support the Company’s strategic transformational initiatives, including digital and cultural shifts.
  • Provide sound, timely, and high-quality advice on current matters and potential business ventures to PDO and stakeholders within the Government and other shareholders. Ensure that legal and compliance considerations are integral to strategic planning and operational decisions.
  • Provide legal advice on Committees or Board issues to safeguard the company’s reputation, image, and staff.  Implement proactive measures for risk mitigation and legal compliance.
  • Manage external legal counsel matters and proceedings (court, arbitrations or disputes), representing the Company’s interests effectively.  
  • Facilitate legal and contractual settlements and claims in a fair manner safeguarding community relations.
  • Oversee concession land matters, ensuring they are managed legally and efficiently, in line with the Company’s strategic objectives and local regulations. 
  • Maintaining and enhancing business relations and effective communication with senior government officials and shareholder representatives. This challenge requires diplomatic skills and the ability to navigate complex political and business environments, ensuring alignment with legal and ethical guidelines.

Education & Experience


University degree in law and legal qualification, with a minimum of 12 years legal post-Qualification experience in a major energy company, international private practice, and/or international business
