Job Description
Accountabilities.
The Exploration Geoscientist is accountable for performing 2D and 3D seismic interpretation to identify, map, and mature leads and prospects, delivering high-quality time and depth maps, fault interpretations, and structural frameworks. The role includes applying quantitative interpretation (QI) workflows—such as seismic attributes, inversion products, and basic AVO/AVA analysis—to support prospect derisking and reservoir understanding, while integrating seismic results with well, rock physics, and petrophysical data. The incumbent will contribute to prospect risking, volumetric estimation, and uncertainty assessment, ensure robust QA/QC and documentation of interpretation deliverables, and actively participate in integrated subsurface studies, peer reviews, and decision-gate processes to support exploration and appraisal decisions.
Job activities.
Interpret 2D and 3D seismic data to define horizons, faults, closures, and stratigraphic features.
Perform seismic-to-well ties, construct velocity models and perform depth conversion.
Map leads and prospects, including structural, stratigraphic, and combination traps.
Generate seismic attributes (e.g. RMS amplitude, spectral decomposition) to support reservoir presence and continuity assessment.
Identifies the key risks associated with prospects and reduce uncertainty through increased understanding of the subsurface model.
Plan and execute drilling of exploration and appraisal wells.
Utilize post-stack and pre-stack inversion products (e.g. CSSI / elastic inversion outputs) under guidance.
Support AVO/AVA screening and rock-property driven interpretation where applicable.
Support well placement decisions by integrating seismic interpretation and QI outputs.
Participate in peer reviews, integrated subsurface sessions, and well planning meetings.
Prepare concise technical maps, figures, and written summaries for internal reviews.
Authorisations.
Within broad guidelines set by the Exploration Manager, the position is answerable for his/her actions, and for the consequences of them.
