Job Description

Senior Production Engineer in thermal recovery operations is a seasoned professional with experience in thermal production engineering, particularly in thermal flooding of heavy oil and steam injection techniques.

The Senior Production Engineer job responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Deep understanding of thermal production processes, including steam injection and reservoir surveillance, with a focus on optimizing recovery from heavy oil reservoirs.

  • Proven skills in thermal optimizing and troubleshooting ALS systems, especially Beam Pumps, Electric Submersible Pumps (ESP), and Progressing Cavity Pumps (PCP). This includes repair methodologies and performance enhancement strategies.

  • Strong grasp of thermal completion techniques for both producers and steam injectors, including diagnostic and optimization methods.

  • Expert-level proficiency in production modeling tools such as GAP, PROSPER, and DOF, with the ability to integrate these platforms for comprehensive analysis.

  • Skilled in analyzing operational data to identify trends in ALS performance and steam optimization and implementing effective strategies to enhance production efficiency.

  • Experience in applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) for ALS optimization, showcasing a forward-thinking approach to production engineering.

  • Regularly conduct surveillance activities using tools like Oilfield Manager (OFM) to monitor and improve field performance.

  • Direct monthly production and injection allocation activities, with strong capabilities in cost tracking and optimization.

  • Demonstrate excellence in well testing and familiarity with production engineering data workflows.

  • Contribute to FDP documentation, work program development, and budget cycle planning.

  • Lead multidisciplinary teams in performance reviews and collaborative optimization initiatives.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Minimum of 15 years in thermal production engineering, with a strong focus on thermal flooding of heavy oil and steam-based recovery operations.
  • Advanced knowledge in Artificial Lift Systems (ALS), especially Beam Pumps and Electric Submersible Pumps (ESP).
  • Proficiency in well performance analysis, steam injection techniques, and reservoir surveillance.
  • Mastery of production modeling software such as GAP, PROSPER, and DOF, including their integration.
  • Strong understanding of thermal completion design, troubleshooting, and recovery strategies for both producers and steam injectors.
  • Expertise in ALS troubleshooting and repair, including BP, ESP, and PCP systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of thermal Beam Pump optimization.
  • Experience applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) in ALS optimization.
  • Ability to analyze operational data to identify trends in ALS performance and steam optimization.
  • Proven track record in implementing effective production optimization strategies. Regular practice of surveillance activities to monitor and enhance field performance.
  • Working knowledge of Oilfield Manager (OFM) software for data analysis and performance tracking.
